Access to clean water, safe sanitation, and proper hygiene is a fundamental human right and the foundation for children’s health, education, dignity, and well-being. Yet across Africa, millions of children continue to live without reliable access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation facilities, and basic hygiene services. These challenges increase the risk of preventable diseases, disrupt education, and undermine children’s ability to thrive.

In recognition of the 2026 Day of the African Child, Giving World International (GWI) is championing the continental theme, “Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for Every Child in Africa.” This initiative reaffirms our commitment to protecting children’s rights by promoting equitable access to essential WASH services and ensuring that children’s voices help shape policies and actions that affect their lives.

Our Commitment

Giving World International believes that sustainable development begins with healthy children and empowered communities. Through education, advocacy, partnerships, and child participation, we are working to improve awareness of WASH issues while encouraging practical, community-led solutions that create lasting change.

As part of this year’s observance, children from Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, and Liberia will participate in a multi-country dialogue to share their experiences, identify barriers to accessing WASH services, and present recommendations to policymakers, educators, and development partners. Their voices will contribute to a stronger regional commitment to improving the health, dignity, and future of every African child.
